All About Save the Date Magnets

Save the date magnets are a fun new variation on save the date cards that are less formal and actually useful. As the name suggests, they are personalized magnets that include all of the information guests need to know about your upcoming wedding day.

When to Use Save the Date Magnets

If you’re planning a wedding that requires guests to make travel arrangements or be available on a long weekend it’s a good idea to send them something asking them to save the date. Send out your save the date magnets after you've set your wedding date and finalized your guest list to give guests plenty of notice.

Where to Buy Save the Date Magnets

Most professional printing companies now offer both save the date magnets and save the date cards that match your stationary. Or you can find several sources online. Keep in mind though that having them professionally printed can be pricey.

A less expensive option is to purchase printable business cards and sticky backed magnetic sheets from your local stationary store and make your own. Although it takes more work you can save a lot of money and create magnets that are exactly what you want. Search online for examples of simple, elegant designs that you can recreate at home.

What to Say

When choosing the wording for your magnets, simple is always best. An example of appropriate wording is:

"Please save the date of Saturday, October 14, 2006, 4 PM, for the wedding of Elizabeth Jones and John Smith in Chicago, IL. Invitation and directions to follow."

What Not to Say

Remember, save the date magnets are only intended to give guests information on the date and time of the wedding so they can make the necessary arrangements to be there. They should not give guests information on the reception, directions or where you’re registered. That’s what your invitations are for!

Who to Send Them to

If you’re sending save the date magnets or save the date cards they should go to everyone on your guest lists. Even if you have family and friends close by who know about your plans, etiquette dictates that they should also receive one.
