Planning your New Jersey Wedding

A guide to the Wedding Timeline

With the average cost of the New Jersey wedding approaching $37,000, the task of planning such an affair can be confusing and at times overwhelming. Wedding magazines, books and guides on the internet all offer Wedding Timelines to help with the planning of your wedding but if you look at more than one you’ll notice that they’re not all the same. Some may differ as much as 8 months or more and only serve to confuse you in determining when to book a photographer or other service. So, which one can you count on? Which one is right?
Even though the timelines vary widely, you can use almost any one to plan your wedding. Some will have you book the majority of the wedding services many months before it’s necessary while others will have you running around trying to find a good professional that is available for your wedding date. Almost all Wedding Timelines provide a date range (6 – 9 months) for finding and hiring a wedding professional which is fine but when the timeline gives the same date range for 4, 5 or 6 different services, brides are often wondering which service she should be looking for first.
Many of the timelines available are cookie-cutter timelines. They are created for everyone in the country because they are seen by people of every region in the country. The problem with this approach is different areas of the country are, well, different. Even many of the “local” magazines publish the cookie-cutter timelines because many magazines are owned by one company.

What you should look for when choosing a Wedding Timeline.

  1. Find a timeline created for the area or state in which you are getting married.
  2. One that takes your best interest into consideration, not just the wedding professionals. Some items on your wedding to do list take a few hours to complete and others may take weeks to complete. A Wedding Timeline should take your time into consideration and avoid scheduling too many major items in too short of a time span.
  3. A timeline that is comprehensive for a wedding, not just for wedding services and products but also includes items such as when to place your engagement announcement in the newspaper and when to get a marriage license.
  4. One with a proper schedule that avoids booking services months before it’s necessary. Many things can happen between the time you book a service or buy a product and the time you say I Do. The shorter that time span, the less the risk the company will go out of business or change hands or any number of other problems you might face.

Your New Jersey Wedding publishes its Wedding Timeline in the Brides Year e-zine, a monthly publication developed specifically for New Jersey wedding planning.
